Even though upper extremity prosthesis may be divided into major and subordinate groups according to performance ,constructional features and power sources. This classification is mainly of theoretical significance.

In practice the following subdivision has proven to be appropriate:

• Cosmetic arm prosthesis
• Cable – activated arm prosthesis
• Myoelectrically controlled arm prosthesis
• Hybrid prosthesis
